Your research question will be located in a broader context which is sometimes referred to as a research topic. An example might be the teaching of science in schools. The topic is clearly large. In this broad field of work there are clearly issues that relate to pedagogy, curriculum, age of students, backgrounds of teachers and so on. You might then think of interesting questions, still quite broad that peel open each of these topics. So you may be curious about the origins of the different pedagogical approaches. You might be interested in the implementation of a curriculum. You might be interested in the role of gender in science education. You might be interested in high achieving students in science etc. etc.
We are still at a point where the focus of your curiosity is broad. You have to keep in mind the time frame in which you are working and the fact that you won't be able to do any research that requires ethical clearance.
